Introduction

Revised : 10th January 2012

Levantia is a site for the social history of the Roman Empire and Near East, roughly between the ninth and thirteenth centuries. It explores this especially by means of practical reconstruction and experimentation. It also includes discussion of the issues of historiographic method and representation in public contexts.

These pages have been created by Timothy Dawson as the result of twenty-five years involvement in historical research, reconstruction and interpretation

All reproductions shown on these pages have been made, as well as researched, by Timothy Dawson, unless otherwise stated.

Exhibition available! The reproductions shown on the site, or equivalent items, are available on loan for exhibition by suitable institutions or organisations, or for hire. Contact Timothy Dawson.

The survival of the Roman Empire for a thousand years after what some people describe as its “Fall” is a particular passion for the author, but by no means the sum of his interests. So if you are at all curious about the other activities of Timothy Dawson, have a look on Facebook.

PDFs of some of Timothy Dawson’s previous scholarly articles are available in the Costume category.
